TASK: 8

Font testing for Masthead
I have decided to name my magazine “ name of magazine". In order to create the cover of my magazine, I wanted to explore different font types for my masthead. These are some of the fonts that I tested for my masthead;

Century Gothic;
Name of mag
Century Gothic font really simple like the Billboard's masthead. However, the typeface doesn’t  have a stylist feature. I think I will have to consider this font as my masthead. The typeface outlook appears to look official which convey a message clearly. Alternatively, as magazine is aimed at younger audience, this font is modern so they are more attracted to this font.
 ___________________________________________________________________________________
AR Bonnie;
Name of mag
AR Bonnie, in my opinion is genuinely unique. I believe this font is spectacular. However, I have come to conclusion of removing the use of this font as the audience suggested the fonts to be bold. Whereas this font is not.
____________________________________________________________________________________
Broadway;
RHYTHM
Broadway is a playful and bold font which compliments the masthead. Nevertheless, majority of people in the focus group not fond of this font type because they believe Broadway is unsuitable for a r&b genre of magazine. Therefore, I have decided not to use this font at all.
___________________________________________________________________________________
Copperplate Gothic Bold
RHYTHM
First I thought this font was appealing, then later onwards I did not like the concept of using Copperplate Gothic Bold, as a masthead because it is absolutely plain, perhaps this font will make the cover dull and lifeless.
__________________________________________________________________________________
Elephant;
RHYTHM
I tested my masthead by using Elephant font. The font is engaging.

CONTENT PAGE MOCK UP

These are the content page mock-ups, I have designed as a idea for my final piece outlook. The one on the left is a simply layout spacious which had more images then writing. On the other hand, the one on the right has more writing then images but the overall look is balanced because it covers up all the empty space of the magazine content page. The layout of the content pages are different as well as the colour scheme.  I have selectively chosen these image to embed in my magazine because it is taken in a range of settings and it has a different vibe to the mazagine.

DOUBLE PAGE MOCK UP'S

This is another sample of how, I might want my final layout of a double spread to look.  This time I have placed my quotation side of the half of the page spread on the left hand side to see what fit's best for the final double page spread. The colour scheme I have decided to use again is turquoise because it is a warm colour which juxtapositions the setting. Again a balance of Light vs Dark. I have intentionally chosen to create this double page styled layout because it signifies the pop genre it's cool, vibrant, bubbly and outstanding. I have made my masthead larger then the rest of my write up to make readers aware of the main title name of my music mazagine cover 'NVW'.

DOUBLE PAGE MOCK UP'S

This is a idea of a layout of my double page spread. I have used a medium shot. This contains a figure from the knees/waist up and is normally used to show some detail of action by focusing on the left hand side of the magazine. On the right hand side of the magazine, I have decided to a simple quotation page as the second half of the magazine cover, I have decided to do this to make the cover balance out the colour scheme and to just present it in a simplistic manner.

FRONT COVER MOCK UP

BEFORE PHOTOSHOP
AFTER PHOTOSHOP

This is my third front cover mockup. Again I have Adobe Photoshop CS4 to photoshop the image of my main model into a magazine cover type of style. Once again I have used Vidalko as my Masthead font. The text colour ranges - turquoise, white, black and black and white (on the name of the model). The I've again used the sae font for the subtitle Gidole. The concept of my image cover I have made the again is  into a dark lighting with a hint of light from the background. To make the model stand out.

EVALUATION

Task 7: Contact Sheet

For this task you will produce:
  • A contact sheet of ALL of your photo-shoot images
    • A contact sheet using Adobe Bridge

FRONT COVER MOCK UP

BEFORE PHOTOSHOP
AFTER PHOTOSHOP

This is one of my mock up front cover. I have present a before and after photoshop. I have used Vidalok font for my Masthead and made it bold and large so it standout in magazine, the colour scheme I have decided to use is turquoise. Then for my subtitle I have used a Gidole font, then made the colour of the text white. The contrast of the warm and hot colours creates a balance to the cover.

  • Produce 3 drafted Masthead:

  • FINAL MASTHEAD I HAVE DECIDED TO USE IS NVW
    I have decided to use sildebean to present my Masthead and layout the ideas.  I have decided to use this because it is more structured and simple at the same time. Time consuming and promising for a trial. This is my first time using this software but I have managed to make use of it and came with this outcome.
    Overall, coming into a conclusion I have decided to use my Masthead Idea 3 because I like  the concept of ambiguity which adds spice to the music genre RnB.

FINAL - Still Editing!
This is an idea of the layout of how my final magazine would look. I have used a bright colour for my Masthead and used it to also outlined important details. I have placed the model as the main focus but have she is not in he centre yet more to the corners of the photo because I wanted to balance the focus on the setting as well as the model.  TRY OUT

TASK 9: MOCK UP'S

FRONT COVER MOCK UP'S

For the Front Cover Mock Up I have decided to use pages to layout different ideas that I would and/ or may use for my final piece. I have used photoshop to edit the image of my main model for this particular mockup I have decided to create a black and white colour scheme. However, that was the case I had decided to use pink for the Masthead as I believe that it makes the main brand to standout to the audience.  I have placed a template of a layout of different front cover which could be presented as.

TASK 6: LOCATION EXPLORATION

I have finally managed to complete my location exploration. I have placed the images I have taken into  a plain landscape wide frame layout to present my images. Due to the slight camera uploading problem I just had to upload  a back up location then afterwards I finally managed to upload the completed one. Overall, throughout the layout and the shooting I have used variations of location. The images vary from indoors to outdoors, I have decided to do this because I wanted to show a range of theme place I could use for my final piece. Across, the top of my location it's all outdoors - I have done the shot in different time of the day and a few bits are indoors.
BACK UP LOCATION LAYOUT

On the back up location - the dark image was taken in Forbury Garden, I have decided to take that image because during the process of my photo session there was a Christmas festival - ride place open up in the Garden area. The lighting was perfect it had all bright which was a contrast to the night I captured the images to show light vs dark.
To create a contact sheet I have used a Adobe Bridge. I have selectively taken images for the location. I have used medium shot and a wide shot for most of my images so that there is a overview of location.

THE REST OF THE BRIEF ANALYSIS IS BELOW AS THE LOCATIONS ARE RE-PASTED

The completed location layout
The first image was captured at night and was a extreme long shot  taken from as much as a quarter of a mile away. I've used this to show a general outlook of the place. This was captured the back of oracle from the bridge view. The lights that were up really added in a spark into the photo - the river had reflection of the bright lighting and building which created a soft , elegant atmosphere. Similarly, the second image was taken in Hong Kong when I went for a holiday this again is a extreme long shot of a plain roadway to present the layout of the roadway - in this image I'm tying to show that this location overall is appropriate for the shot because it is less cramped.

The third image was taken out in the St Barnabas church area in emmer green a greenery landscape uses of wide shot for overview. The fourth image was taken in town on a rainy day outside on a empty side walk way. I decided to place that location as I believe that it was a perfect RnB like dance stage music atmosphere outside in contrast to the indoors ideal. The fifth location is near Budgens in black horse road area, another greenery scenario where is well balanced warm colour (green, autumn fallen leaves, road way , lamp post etc.) this creates a welcoming atmosphere.

The sixth location was in Hong Kong inside a ship, I have decided to use this as one of my location because it is very different and unique. There is a row of benches in the ship which is crafted by wood, and so are the design of the inside of the ship. The seventh location was outside of bite the CafĂ©, it was a low angle shot just to focus on the props and the layout of the area. The eight location was on the London Road in town, I have used a close up shot because  this shot magnifies the object (think of how big it looks on a cinema screen) and shows the importance of things.
Lastly, the ninth location was on the side walk of oracle, I have used High angle shot to make the object photographed seem smaller, and less significant as I was trying to focus more on the landscape rather than the model.

COMPLETED LOCATION LAYOUT
  • An explanation illustrating why these locations are appropriate/not appropriate for your genre and audience?
    • I believe the locations I have chosen are appropriate for my genre and audience because I have varied the location , although the locations I have chosen are not plain backgrounds but it live background this is done on purpose because later on my final product I would like to show a greater change I can make via with my Photoshop.
    • On the other hand, this can also be not appropriate because a plain background photo-shooting will help me add in more details in my photo rather then having the nature or a empty place.
    • Your final decisions on locations for your photo-shoot  ?
    • Overall, I have decided to make use of all of the location that I have captured because I have made sure to use then in different parts of my work during my mock ups.

TASK 2: MOODBOARD

This is a mood board illustrating of my initial ideas and inspirations for my music magazine that I will be creating. The Potential colours that I might be using are shown on the images that I have chosen for my mood board - most likely to be warm colours - dark colours which are: black, grey, royal blue and red. The Potential fonts I could be using would depend of the layout of my music magazine therefore it is not fixed. This are an Inspirational ideas that I could use for my front covers, contents pages or double page spreads as a layout of the main images and or style of the outlook (Inspirational images).

Overall, all the images are only vary from a close up shot to a medium shot , the camera is on a eye level to the model. The model is focusing on the camera creating a direct approach and grabs attention. I believe that this types of images an colour is suitable for my magazine because it gives out the R & B touch- via use of props: cap, sun glasses .Accessories - necklace , earing, makeup.

TASK 1: CALENDAR/TIMELINE

Task: when start and finish , photo-shoot, deadline, class work & outside of class

I have created my calendar in 'Microsoft Publisher'. I have chosen to use this software because it allows me to creates a well structured layout with it's design tools. I have color coded the calendar because to make it simple and clear. Although, I have completed the layout and a few key points about my to-do-list. However, I still have to add in my information regarding the timings of my coursework after looking at at my workbook calendar.
